El Club Secreto de los Millonarios

Me encontré con el Club Secreto de los Millonarios esta semana. Una serie animada con el ambicioso objetivo de enseñarle a los niños las bases y los beneficios de las buenas decisiones financieras y el espíritu emprendedor.  Parece un recurso promisorio para maestros, padres de familia o facilitadores de los niños. Un gran adicional viene al tener al mismísimo Warren Buffett como patrocinador de la iniciativa y actuando como él mismo en la serie.

Aparte de alimentar mi alcancía de tiempo en tiempo o de recibir una cuenta bancaria para niños, con el refrán "ahorrar es importante" repetido religiosamente, realmente no recuerdo que me enseñaran mucho más sobre decisiones financieras a temprana edad; aprendí más hasta que era ya un hombre joven y estuve en gran necesidad de ordenarme. Mientras que no recuerdo haber escuchado nunca nada acerca de espíritu emprendedor en las conversaciones de mis mayores. Aún teniendo dos tíos manejando sus propios negocios.

No hay duda que quiero realizar algunas mejoras y cambios en la educación de mis hijos en comparación con la mía. El bagaje financiero y emprendedor definitivamente califican alto en mi lista. No obstante no tenía muy buena idea de cómo conseguirlo o qué recursos están disponibles hasta que me encontré con el Club esta semana.

Tal y como lo describen sus creadores, "Es una serie animada creada para chicos de 6-11 años donde Warren Buffett actúa como mentor para un grupo de niños que tienen aventuras internacionales en negocios. El Club los empodera al ayudarles a comprender el mundo en  que viven y el impacto que sus decisiones tienen en sus vidas, aún teniendo tan solo 8 años."

Recientemente se realizó un esfuerzo adicional para agregar recursos educativos que contienen materiales didácticos para maestros, actividades para realizar en casa la familia y actividades luego de la escuela para grupos juveniles. Tanto los recursos como los episodios cortos son gratis y están disponibles en el sitio web de la serie. (Están solo en inglés). 

Además de la originalidad y audacia del concepto (para no mencionar la presencia de Buffett), estoy asombrado por el cuidado que se puso en la caracterización de los 4 niños y niñas que protagonizan el show y sus interacciones. Así como la simplicidad y acierto de los recursos para padres.

The Secret Millionaires Club

I came across the Secret Millionaires Club this week. An animated series with the ambitious goal of teaching kids the basics and benefits of sound financial decisions and entrepreneurship. It seems to me a promising resource for teachers, parents or facilitators. A big plus comes with Warren Buffett as sponsor and featuring himself in the series.

Other than feeding my moneybox from time to time or to get bank account for kids, with the mantra "saving is important", I really can't remember being thought much more than that about financial decisions while I was a kid; I learned more until I was a young man and I found myself in need to know. On the other hand, I don´t think the word entrepreneurship was even used in the conversations that I used to hear among my elders. Even having two uncles running their own businesses. 

No question I’d like to make some improvements and changes in the education of my kids as compared to mine. Financial and entrepreneurial acumen certainly rank high on my list. However I did not have a clue how to make that happen or which resources were available until I came across the Secret Millionaires Club this week. 

As described by its creators, “It is an animated series created for kids 6-11 years where Warren Buffett acts as a mentor to a group of kids who have international adventures in business. The Club empowers them by helping them understand the world they live in, teaching them about the impact their decisions have on their own lives… even when they are 8 years old!” 

Recently, it branched out into a sponsored educational program, "Learn & Earn" with in-school materials for teachers, at home activities for families and after school activities for youth organizations. 

Besides the originality and audacity of the concept (not to mention Buffett’s presence) I am amazed by the care put on the crafting of the characters of the 4 boys and girls starring on the show as well as their interactions. Also by the simplicity and soundness of the resources for parents.
